Mercedes GLB Erlkönig spotted – All information about the SUV
The next generation of the GLB is on the road and has now been spotted on a test drive. We have all the pictures and information about the new SUV for you.
The GLB was last revised in 2023 and accordingly it is slowly but surely time for the generation change in the SUV. Now there are pictures of the prototype on a test drive.
- Planned for 2026 as a combustion engine and electric SUV
- Successor to the EQB
- Probably 85 kWh battery, shorter range than expected for the CLA
- In terms of performance, probably in variants from 143 to 375 hp
New Mercedes GLB: Exterior design
The new GLB is no longer quite as angular as its predecessors, but remains easily recognizable despite rounded corners. Based on Mercedes' new MMA platform, which supports both combustion engines and electric cars, the GLB is part of the new product strategy, which will do without the A- and B-Class in the future. Instead, the CLA will be the new entry-level model with numerous variants.
The GLB is still heavily camouflaged compared to the CLA, which also gets new teasers again and again. Since the SUV is not planned until 2026, the camouflage is not really surprising. Nevertheless, some details can already be seen. For example, the slimmer headlights, which will probably come with the Mercedes star light signature. The grille also seems to have spread out and now extends more over the lower half of the front end.
When looking at the rear, you notice the vertical taillights, which Mercedes still hides under fake Smart taillights. It is still unclear what other design changes are still on the horizon for the new generation, and this can only be determined for prototypes with less camouflage.
New Mercedes GLB: Drive and engine
Since the GLB uses the MMA platform, it is likely to be available as both a combustion engine and an electric car. For the electric SUV, this means that we can expect similar values to the EQB. After all, the GLB is to succeed the EQB. Specifically, the current EQB offers a choice of a rear-wheel drive with 268 hp or an all-wheel-drive vehicle with 375 hp and two engines. For the batteries, the EQB relies on capacities of 58 kWH and 85 kWh. If there are updates here, the new GLB could have a good range, but we expect it to be less than the 750km that the CLA is supposed to manage.
For the combustion variants, there is likely to be a mild hybrid four-cylinder with a displacement of one and a half liters. We expect engine variants over 143, 161 and 188 hp as well as front-wheel drive with optional all-wheel drive. There should also be an AMG version, but whether it will come at the same time as the standard models is questionable.
New Mercedes GLB: Presentation and sales launch
The new GLB is planned for 2026, before that there should not be too much information regarding the start of sales and sales price. Interested parties will therefore have to be patient until the SUV becomes available. As soon as there are more pictures or new information about the GLB, we will keep you up to date.
